There are circumstances were temporary cover may be required, you have the option for three temporary adjustments:

  • Temporary Additional Driver
  • Temporary Substitute Vehicle
  • Temporary Additional Vehicle

Temporary adjustments are charged as weekly premiums by the insurer, terms and conditions apply, these are as follows:

  • Premiums include government levy and contributions at 7% and an administration charge (with effect from 1st March 2019, Motor Insurers Insolvency Contribution Fund [MIICF] of 2% applies);
  • Temporary adjustment charges are non-refundable;
  • In terms of acceptance, temporary adjustments are subject to our normal underwriting criteria;
  • “Weekly” charge refers to a period of 7 days from the start date and time of the adjustment;
  • Only one temporary adjustment can be processed at any one time;

Temporary Additional Driver

A temporary additional driver is when a driver is added to your policy for a set period e.g. 7 days. The option may be suitable for family or friends who are visiting from another EU country.

In addition to the terms and conditions above:

  • A temporary additional driver can only be added for a maximum of 30 days within each policy term;
  • Only one temporary driver can be added at any one time;
  • The maximum number of drivers on the policy at any one time including the policyholder is 3.

Temporary Substitute Vehicle

A temporary substitute vehicle is when your insurance cover is transferred from your usual car to another car for a set period e.g. 7 days. During this time, your usual car is without insurance cover. This option may only be suitable when your usual car is in for maintenance and you have been provided with a courtesy car.

In addition to the terms and conditions above:

  • A temporary substitute vehicle can only be added for a maximum of 30 days within each policy term where the insured vehicle is in for maintenance.
  • The temporary vehicle must have valid NCT and Tax and is not a rental;
  • It has not been modified from the manufacturer’s standard specification and;
  • Has not been imported from outside Northern Ireland or the UK;
  • The temporary vehicle is not currently insured elsewhere and has not been uninsured for more than 30 days

Temporary Additional Vehicle

A temporary additional vehicle is when another car is added to your insurance policy for a set period e.g. 7 days. During this time, both cars are insured. This option may only be suitable when your usual car is in for maintenance and you have been provided with a courtesy car, but you don’t want your usual car uninsured.

In addition to the terms and conditions above:

  • A temporary additional vehicle can only be added for a maximum of 30 days within each policy term where the insured vehicle is in for maintenance.
  • The temporary vehicle must have valid NCT and Tax and is not a rental;
  • It has not been modified from the manufacturer’s standard specification and;
  • Has not been imported from outside Northern Ireland or the UK;
  • The temporary vehicle is not currently insured elsewhere and has not been uninsured for more than 30 days
